Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? by Dr Seuss is one of our favorite Dr. Seuss books. It literally is a book of wonderful noises. You can't go wrong with any Dr. Seuss book -- so when we discussed reviewing a Dr. Seuss book, we decided to go with a less familiar title. This book is great for very young kids as they are just learning to talk and to form words and sounds. My 18-month-old niece loves the pages with the thunder (and lightning), the words are "boom boom boom". That is consequently what she calls the book.
It is a rhyming book which makes it even more fun -- Dr. Seuss is magic with rhymes. (Of course, he is the ultimate work maker-upper.) "Boom, boom, boom, splat splat, splat" who can compete with a master like that!! The sounds are everything from thunder to bees buzzing and fish kissing.
The pictures are classic Dr. Seuss as well. Mr. Brown is a funny looking man with a bushy mustache. He uses lots of colors and animals (always doing fun things like the hippopotamus chewing gum).
One of the reasons this book is "fun" for me, is I get to watch my nephew (who is 4-years-old) read it to my 18-month-old niece. They way he articulates the sounds is a lot of fun to watch.
Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? is a great book to practice your interactive reading skills. By changing the way you say the sounds and how loud they are said makes it a really fun and exciting book to read.
